Description:
BIG NEWS! We're thrilled to welcome woodworking influencer Leah Houghtaling as our guest speaker for this class! If you don't know Leah, check out her informative (and hilarious) videos. Don't miss this special chance to learn from her in a small group setting!

There are lots of ways to finish your woodwork. You can preserve the texture of natural wood but enhance its glow with rubbed oil. You can build up a protective surface that sheds water and gives a sheen from matte to glossy. You can color natural wood with a pigment or a stain. Or you can even coat the surface of your wooden project with an opaque paint.

Different finishes provide different effects, different levels of protection, and offer different toxicity to the worker and end user. In this class we’ll discuss a variety of finishes that are naturally sourced and non-toxic (even non-toxic finishes can still irritate the skin, so we’ll still wear gloves when applying) and give participants an opportunity to experiment with them without the anxiety of working on a finished project that already has hours invested.

We’ll play with shellac, milk paint, and several different oils. We’ll also as discuss clay paints, plasters, and shou sugi ban.
