There’s a palpable excitement around here as we start getting ready for our very busy late spring and summer schedule. Material orders for our tiny house classes have been placed. Larch for our Adirondack chair and picnic table classes is being delivered and processed. The shop and property are getting tidied up and ready for students. On top of which, we’ve been working on creating some new Hammerstone promotional items for you!

AMBER GRANT FINALIST LETTER
We are so excited to be in the final run-off for this grant and are happy to re-answer your question: “If you were to win the $2000 Amber Grant, how would you use the money?” You are right that a lot has changed since we answered this question a year ago. What hasn’t changed is our intention to use this grant to support our scholarship fund. However, based on our experiences in the past year, we’d like to earmark the Amber Grant for a specific demographic; namely, girls and young women.

Woodworking 101 is (the name of a Hammerstone class that recently ended, and) a fitting title for this blog post, because I want to talk about the difference between carpentry and woodworking.

“Craftsmanship” is an interesting word. The suffix “-manship” (sportsmanship, showmanship, penmanship, etc) denotes exceptional skill. These attributes are given to good sportsmen, showmen, and penmen.
