Last call for Framing and dry-in!

Can you believe we're just one week away from the first tiny house course of 2024?! Next Monday is Rough Framing: Build a Tiny House!

We almost never offer discounts on courses at Hammerstone, but this year we're offering a 10% off discount code: 2024TH10 for registrations for our first two tiny house courses: Rough Framing and Dry-In. We want to encourage anyone who's been on the fence about registering to go ahead and commit.

Three things we've learned to be true at Hammerstone:

Anyone can learn how to build a house.

Complete beginners can succeed with the right guidance, even if they've had discouraging experiences in other settings.

Building a house alongside other women is epic and unforgettable.

Don't think you know enough to try to attempt build a house? Don't worry - our expert instructors provide guidance throughout the process, teaching all the basic skills you need to get started. Most students in class are complete beginners, and everyone is there to learn.

Can't take Rough Framing but want to jump into another class? Go right ahead! All classes are standalone and you can start anywhere in the series.

Framing a House

How does a pile of lumber turn into a fully framed shelter in less than a week? Like any complex task, building a house can be broken down into simpler steps!

We start class with an overview of the plan. We then go over carpentry basics: how to measure, mark, and cut with safety and accuracy. Before building, we learn the anatomy of a framed wall. What's the spacing of studs, and why? How do we frame around a window or door? How is load transferred? After this 'framing 101' lesson, we start building walls. It doesn't take long for the group to start working together as a synchronized crew. People pair up to tackle different tasks as instructors and TAs mill around to guide and assist. Before we know it, it's time to raise walls onto the trailer, the whole group working in unison.

Enjoy these beautiful spring days, and we hope to see you soon!

Until next time,
Hammer On!
